About

Hi, I’m Jemimah Nagasha. I’m a Bitcoin open-source developer based in Kampala, Uganda.

What I do

I work full-time on Bitcoin and Lightning open source, supported by a Btrust Starter Grant. My main project is Polar, a desktop app that lets developers spin up local Lightning Network environments for building and testing.

More broadly, I’m interested in the tooling that makes Bitcoin easier to build on.

How I got here

I didn’t start out in software. My background is in civil engineering and I worked in that field before finding my way to Bitcoin.

The turning point was attending the first BitDevs Kampala meetup. Reading and discussing protocol developments with other developers made me want to contribute, not just follow along. From there I went through the Btrust Builders Program, which gave me the grounding and the community to move into sodtware development and Bitcoin open source full-time. If you’re curious, you can read about it here.

Outside of code

I love to read. You can see what’s on my nightstand on my Now page.
